A TRUE modern-day Audrey Hepburn, Kelly Lee of "Kelly Golightly" sweeps through the idyllic OASIS of Palm Springs with a bold sense of style.
How I rang in the new year... in Palm Springs with my husband Fred Baby, over an intimate dinner at the beautiful new home of our friends Ross Mathews and Salvador Camarena. The next day, we hopped in the car for a roadtrip through the Mojave desert.
What I'm most excited for in 2015... I’ve been invited to spend the weekend at the Jonathan Adler-designed Eau de Palm in Palm Beach. I’m a huge JA fan and can’t wait to see his genius in action. Come February, my husband and I will be exhibiting our photography work for the first time, a Slim Aarons-inspired collection, at The Eichler House for Modernism Week in Palm Springs. I was also invited to cruise through the Caribbean and look forward to a little island hopping. It seems I’m going to be quite the palm vivant!
Most beloved place in the country... Palm Springs, where we are lucky enough to have a weekend home. We go every chance we get. And Mono Lake is magical, as are the Antelope Valley poppy fields in the spring.
Favorite article of clothing... My giant Audrey Hepburn-inspired sunhat that I picked up in the tiny town of Miguel Perera, Brazil. It hides both a bad hair day and keeps my face protected from the sun.
Personal style secret... The bigger the hat the better, and sunglasses always. And it’s never worth it to wear something uncomfortable. I love a good caftan or babydoll dress.
Favorite meal on the road... Tacos forever!
Best current hashtag... #Theflagisraised which I use on Instagram to kick off virtual happy hour. It is inspired by Frank Sinatra’s tradition of raising a flag between two palm trees at his Twin Palms Estate to alert the neighbors it was time to join him for happy hour. Now others use the hashtag too, which creates a fun sense of community.
Favorite current trend... Color! I can’t get enough of bright, happy hues.
Must-see places for that upcoming trip to Palm Springs... Enjoy the slow pace of drinks or lunch by the pool at The Viceroy, The Colony Palms and The Parker. Grab tacos or enchiladas suizas at Las Casuelas and a mocha freeze from Koffi. For a complete throwback, have a drink or dinner at Melvyn's, where the Rat Pack used to hang out, and where you can still have items like Steak Diane made table side. Pop into Trina Turk and my favorite vintage stores Bon Vivant, The Fine Art of Design, and Dazzles for fabulous shopping (see my Palm Springs Shopping Guide here). Pop into some open houses for interior eye candy, drive into the windmills and around the neighborhoods of Vista Las Palmas and Racquet Club.
